Interactive Fiction games, also known as text-adventures were the most played genre of computer games in the 80s and are still being made today by fans of the genre - and are better than they ever were.
They are completely text based and blend literature with logical puzzle-solving, thus making them ideal tools for learning.
To play an Interactive Fiction game, download an IF interpreter for your operating system. The Interpreter is the program that can read many different formats of IF and present them to you.
If you have never played IF before, download the Beginner's Guide to Interactive Fiction PDF, which contains common commands and words used in IF games.
For more information on Interactive Fiction and especially how to use them for language teaching/learning, read my blog - IF Only.
